Armed with the dream and keen desire to spread the true and everlasting gospel of Christ based on the Bible, Bro. Eliseo F. Soriano was first heard over the television through the program Ang Dating Daan in February 1983.
Without him meaning to, the flagship television program has become the independent religious force to reckon with in the network-dominated television industry for over 15 years now. And Brother Eli, known for his mastery of the Holy Scriptures and unmistakable insights is nothing short of a broadcasting phenomenon like the program that has drawn and won the woos and ires of listeners, believers, converts and enemies.
Known for exposing unscrupulous and get-rich-quick schemes in religions, the program has become very controversial, copied and satirized but admired for its thought-provoking and insightful viewpoints, biblically speaking.
As a result of the use of television, beside radio, membership of the organization known as the City of Truth (Bayan ng Katotohanan) grew considerably from only a little over 300 to more than 50,000 to date.
At the helm is Bro. Eli Soriano, who is best known as their Bro. Soriano whom anyone can ask question about just anything under the sun but always makes sure that he makes his answers irrefutable through constant reference to the passages and verse in the Bible.
Its on-and-off standing in television during the early ‘80s was the result of several attempts by its religious counterparts to pin down Ang Dating Daan and boot it out from IBC Channel 13 and RJTV Channel 29. But the years 1989 and 1990 paved the way for the surge in the growth of admirers, viewers and converts.
Now aired over the facilities of SBN Channel 21 and NUTV Channel 37 in television, and heard over 100 Radyo Natin stations, and RMN, among others, the program remains dauntless and fierce as ever with the integration of the internet technology and webstreaming media via webtv.angdatingdaan.net and its official website www.angdatingdaan.org.
Like the David who fought the giant Goliath in the Bible, the program is faced with bigger challenges, and the most daunting of all these is how to remain and keep its foothold in the mainstream media, to undertake what it aimed to do since its inception.
